When it comes to building a sports field, one of the inconveniences we may encounter is finding information on the regulatory measures that the playing field must have.
Below we have made a brief summary of the official measures dictated by the Federation corresponding to each sport activity. As of July 1, 2016.
Basketball court dimensions
The regulatory measures of a basketball court for international competitions, according to FIBA, are 28m long x 15m wide. In addition we have to add 2 meters on each side of the court for the safety of the players. Adding this safety distance, the total dimension is 32m long x 19m wide.
For basketball courts, Sportex PVC flooring is the best choice. Sportex are the most suitable if the installation is indoors. Their PVC foam backing improves shock absorption, ball rebound and reduces the risk of injury.

3X3 Basketball field measurements
This modality is becoming increasingly popular both in Europe and in the United States.
At Supreme Floors, we are proud to have installed the training track during the during the last world championship qualification tournament. This event was organized by FIBA in Andorra.
The size of a 3×3 basketball court, according to FIBA, is approximately half the size of a traditional basketball court: 15 x 11m. It is also necessary to take into account the safety space that must be left around the court.

Handball court dimensions
Handball is another indoor sport that is becoming more and more prominent on the world stage.
The regulatory measures of a handball field are indicated in the regulations drawn up by the IHF.
The playing field must be 40m long x 20m wide.
And vinyl flooring is the most widely used when building a court for the practice of this activity in competition. International institutions as well as handball clubs prefer vinyl flooring courts instead of parquet. PVC is a material that minimizes shocks and prevents players from slipping.

Volleyball field measurements
The regulation surface of a volleyball court must be 18m long x 9m wide. This is indicated by the International Volleyball Federation in its regulations.
It is also necessary to take into account the safety zone that should be left around the volleyball court, about 3m minimum on each side.
In world and official FIVB competitions, in competitions of the male and female Honor Divisions and male and female Superligas-2 of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation, it must measure 5 m from the side lines and 8 m from the back lines.
The height necessary for the ball not to encounter obstacles, which should be 12.5m.

Indoor soccer field dimensions
The measurements of an indoor soccer field vary for national or international competitions. They also change for high level professional or under 16 years old competitions. And all these measures are regulated by FIFA.
For the professional level, both in national and international matches of importance, the dimensions of a futsal court are 42x25m maximum and 38x20m minimum.
In facilities where the indoor soccer field is also for multi-sport use, it is recommended that the dimensions of the field be of the same length.
In other competitions such as under 16, women’s teams, veteran players or players with disabilities, modifications to the dimensions of the field are allowed. The size of the futsal field may be reduced to a minimum of 25x16m.
