To find out what official dimensions a tennis court and a badminton court should have, we have consulted the International Federations of each sport.
These organizations dictate the rules and regulations of their respective activities. They also specify the specific measures that the playing field must have.
As of September 1, 2016, we found the following data:
Measurements of a tennis court
According to the International Tennis Federation (ITF), a tennis court should be a rectangle 23.77 m long by 8.23 m wide for singles matches. On the other hand, for doubles matches, the court must measure 23.77 m long by 10.97 m wide.
Parallel to and on either side of the net, two lines shall be drawn between the sidelines. These lines are called service lines. The area that is delimited is divided into two equal parts called service boxes. The center service line shall be drawn parallel to the singles sidelines and equidistant to them. (See chart).
The center service line and the center mark should be 5 cm wide. The other lines of the court may be between 2.5 cm and 5 cm wide. With the exception of the baselines, which may be up to 10 cm wide. All court measurements must be taken from the outside of the lines.
All field lines should be of the same color so that they contrast clearly with the surface color.
For indoor or outdoor tennis courts, Bergo Ultimate polypropylene tiles are the best alternative. They offer excellent ball bounce, good friction and elasticity. They have a very good resistance to sunlight and extreme temperatures, and their perforations facilitate water drainage and quick drying.
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has given them a 4. Medium-Fast rating.
Below, we have made a summary table with the main measurements of a tennis court, including the safety distance:
Measurements of a badminton court
According to the Badminton World Federation (BWF), a badminton court should be a rectangle 13.40 m long x 6.10 m wide for doubles matches. And 13.40 m long x 5.18 m wide for singles matches.
A badminton court is also divided into different zones by the so-called short service line and the long service line for doubles, both parallel to the net. And these zones are, in turn, divided into two equal parts which are called the right and left service court respectively (See graphic).
The lines delimiting the field should have a width of 40 mm. In addition, they should be easy to distinguish and preferably white or yellow in color.
We must bear in mind that this sport can be practiced both indoors and outdoors.
At Supreme Floors, we offer different types of flooring for badminton courts: vinyl flooring in rolls Sportex Racketfor indoor badminton courts. They are manufactured in 6 thicknesses (from 2 to 8 mm) and in rolls of various sizes.
If the badminton court is outdoors, Bergo Ultimate polypropylene tiles are a very good choice. They withstand the harshest conditions, allow for quick drainage of rainwater and are unaffected by sunlight or extreme temperatures.
