We received an inquiry from a customer, who was looking for a PVC floor for a cargo plane.
This type of aircraft does not carry passengers, but only transports goods. They have larger doors to facilitate the loading and unloading of cargo. And they do not have seats like commercial aircraft, but use all available space to carry the maximum amount of goods possible on each trip.
What do I usually put on a cargo plane?
Of course, a very strong floor is required, as it will have to support the weight and handling of the items being transported by the aircraft. Packages in general are quite heavy, and it is easy for the floor to wear out when moving them to the right place for the trip.
In addition, a dissipative floor is necessary to avoid generating electrostatic charges that could interfere with the aircraft’s electrical equipment.
What is a dissipative soil?
Dissipative floors belong to a type of floors that have a specific treatment. This treatment allows the electrostatic charge that we can accumulate to dissipate through them. This considerably reduces static discharges, those uncomfortable “sparks” that sometimes occur when touching a metal object.
Modulfix AS compact tiles combine all these characteristics.
They comply with EN 61340-4, which is the standard used to assess the level of electrical resistance of the soil. Their antistatic properties, measured by the transverse electrical resistance of the compound, do not require the installation of a grounded conductive system.
In addition, no specific preparation of the floor is required prior to installation.
Installation is very simple, as no gluing is required.
These PVC tiles, 50×50 cm and 7 mm thick, are one of the technical solutions offered by vinyl flooring to meet specific technical requirements. They are recommended for computer center units, telephone exchanges, workshops equipped with digital control equipment. Also in EPAs (areas protected against electrostatic discharges) in the automotive or electronics industry, etc.
For conductive and dissipative floors, Modulfix offers 2 alternatives:
- Modulfix ESD: soil between104 Ω – 106Ω level.
- Modulfix AS: between106 Ω – 109Ω
